Amsterdam

I recently visited Amsterdam to see 3 performances of one of my favourite ballets "Jewels" created by George Balanchine.  I was blown away by the ballet!  However it was good to visit Amsterdam again as I have not been for a while.  Despite the rain I was able to sight see a little.
A plane on the observation deck at Schipol Airport!

You know you have arrived in Amsterdam - tulips!

And Cheese!!!

I love Old Amsterdam cheese soooo tasty!

Even the lampshades get made of "tulips"!

One of the many bulb shops on the Singel.

Dutch clogs in every form and shade - keyrings,
bottle openers etc!

Sales overseen by the popular King & Queen!

An old cheese carrier.

More gorgeous tulips.

Flowers flowers everywhere!

The typical Dutch buildings that line the canals.

Canal view with a typical bicycle!

More quaint house - some quite crooked!

Take your pick!

The new with the old a very fitting modern building -
the red brick on the left with round window is
very sympathetic to its neighbours.

The Royal Palace in Dam Square.

Cakes in the Bijenkorf department store across from the Palace.

The canals by night - lights reflecting prettily in the water.

Bridges beautifully lit.

  1. How wonderful to see a Balenchine ballet and I love the Emerald costume. Never been to Amsterdam: it does look colourful and really interesting.

  2. The ballet, cheeses and canal sites are beautiful enough, but the tulips are soul- satisfying! At least to me on a chilly rainy day. Thank you for posting them all.
