Amsterdam Windows & Markets

As you know I love markets as we don't have many "proper" markets here in the UK.  I am conscious that I have gone on about Amsterdam a bit but I hope you won't mind me sharing a few last pics of the shops and markets and then we really must move on as I have been up to lots of other things since Amsterdam! Fashion first:-
Hermes windows at Schipol Airport

On Utrechtstraat there are lots of querky shops:-

Cute boots!

Love the slogan!

Zara Home - lovely cushions!

Hermes P C Hoofstraat - origami -
Laboratoire du Temps

Parures de Maharajas & Reves d'Escargot

More of the same - sorry about the reflections
it was very hard to capture without them!

A lovely collar at Anne Fontaine.

That was some of the fashion in Amsterdam - they do have nice things that is for sure!

Now for some flowers:-
Lovely dried flowers adorn the roof in one of the market
stalls on the Singel Flower Market.

Lots of bulbs for sale - mind you when I got
mine home, 50 turned out to be 42!!

Lovely Dahlias - it has been impossible to buy
any at home due to the weather this year!

Amazing autumnal gourds!

Lots of fabulous colours and shapes!

A huge choice of bulbs so hard to decide!
A lovely rose bouquet.
Now for the foodie side of Amsterdam!
Cheese tasting for tourists along The Singel -yum!

Fancy cakes at de Bijenkorf in Dam Square.
Cheese & clogs!
I really liked this window!

A cute croissants over a bakers shop!

Lovely goodies inside.

A fresh veg market.

An amazing array and choice of vegetables
and fruits.

All beautifully presented.

Food in one of the many speciality shops.
Amsterdam has a lot of Indonesian restaurants
and food shops due to connections with that
part of the world in its colonial days.
We certainly did not go hungry in Amsterdam this trip as I had researched some restaurants on Tripadvisor!  I am so glad I did.  I love Thai food so I found Na Siam just off Utrechtstraat:-
Rice served in a moon shape...

...and a star!!

Red Thai curry and a red Panang curry - yum!

The restaurant was very small and
hidden away on a side street!.
The next restaurant I found was De Struisvogel - The Ostrich - which normally sells Ostrich steaks but due to chicken flu in South Africa they ad to serve Springbok instead!  Hmm.....I had fish!!

A lovely salmon mousse starter.

My fish dish.

Yummy dessert of amaretti
biscuits, a frozen
mousse and raspberries!
One of the ostrich tiles on the walls!

After my visit to the Hermitage I was hungry, so I indulged in a piece of Dutch traditional Apple Cake. It was as good as it looks!

Well that is it from my Amsterdam trip, next time we'll have a change!

  7. Hi there,
Commenting on an older post... Amsterdam is one of the nicest cities in the world. On top of the list of museums to visit (they are all amazingly beautiful) I would put the Van Gogh museum. It was gorgeous before renovation. It will certainly be even more amazing afterwards...
    Cheers,
