Plisse Playtime

Some time ago I acquired this beautiful cerise plisse version of Aux Pays d'Epices.  I had been looking for one in a brighter colourway and this fitted the bill, although I would still like a flat one really;-) Anyway as today was a slow autumnal day I decided to hunt this plisse out and have a play with it:-

The full scarf.

Circles containing  details of spices etc..
encircle the design.

Lots of dried spices and nuts (nutmeg?)
make up the design.

I think it's a pretty colourway.
Just wrapped around with the tails
tucked inside.

Butterfly knot with scarf ring.

Butterfly knot with scarf ring and a
single knot.

A single knot tied using only the very edges
of the hem to get this effect

Scarf ring used to loop the scarf
ends through to make a bow.

Here I slightly lengthened the bows
by pulling them out a bit more - and
you can just see the ring here too.

Half bow knot with scarf ring.

Just playing here to see what works I folded
the scarf across the middle and tied as per a
Cossack - it felt a bit bulky but if you want a
warm neck or cowl collar look this would
work well!!

Again purely playing - this is folded as if you had a
90cm folded in half on the square (not diagonal)
then I put it round my neck and pulled the ends
through a ring - just like the a-symmetrcial knot the
only difference being I didn't fold opposite corners
to make a diagonal before putting round my neck.
A bit flouncy but if that's a look you want it works.

Friendship Knot

This is a single knot tied in the front of the scarf
before putting round the neck.  I have hidden the
ends inside the roll and tied them together inside
the roll to stop them falling out

The 2 ring slide which works well.

Hope you like some of the ideas here!

Recent Acquisitions 3

For years I have coveted the Christmas Scarf by Dimitri Rybaltchenko Noel au Faubourg 24.   I have watched and watched AND watched on Ebay for this design so I was delighted when I finally found it in plisse form and in PINK!  I love this pink version (although I think THE one to have is the turquoise)  and being a plisse has the added benefit that you cannot really see that it is a Christmas scarf so you can wear it any time -especially as it is pastels it works any time!  I got his from a Japanese seller so I did have to pay some import tax on it but the price was still no more than you would pay here for a new scarf.  Also plisses are no longer made by Hermes so I was even more happy to have another plisse.
The snow globe containing the Christmas scene at FSH including tiny shoppers with orange bags!
Some butterfly knots and an equestrian with Half Ascot Knot
Some simple drapes with a scarf ring (oops the Equestrian got in there again!)
And some nice half bows and then in the last photo I just kept threading
the ends from the half bow into the scarf ring to make a pretty multiple bow.

Recent Acquisitions 2

I am going away for a couple of days tomorrow, however I have another post for you to enjoy.  So one of the next scarves I got was a vintage La Reale.  I had to wash this one when it came as it had a strong smell of perfume (and still does) and one or two marks that have come with its age, however it is much better for the wash I gave it!  The silk is beautifully soft and has the feel more of the 70cm scarves that you can buy today.  Whilst the colours are not the best for me I wanted a La Reale in my collection and for the price I paid this met the requirement nicely.

Some close ups of the scarf detail.

Some ideas of how to wear the scarf - here mainly simple drapes

and some knots using a scarf ring.

New Acquisitions

Over the last few years/months I have added to my collection of scarves by purchasing some scarves from Ebay.  It is a case of watching every now and then and you can get some really nice scarves at really great prices.  So I'll post some of the scarves I have acquired in this way.  Here is the most recent scarf I got:-

Golf Balls Plisse
The scarf in detail.
Just simply worn with the addition of a scarf ring or knot.
And some more fancy knots which the plisse lends itself so beautifully to!
Single knot in the 2 left photos, butterfly knots in the 2 on the right.

Caring for your Plissé Scarves

I have watched the SAs in Hermès fold plissé scarves into their little round boxes several times and I think I have the "knack" now!  A few people have asked me what to do when the pleats come apart a little - my suggestion is to wrap the scarves carefully like the Hermès SAs and pack them in their boxes the right way round so as to ensure the pleats are "compressed" into shape.  For my plissé that came from an Ebay sale with no box I found that it was a tiny bit out of shape so I wrapped it around a water spray canister that was the right size and patted the scarf down as far as it would go, compressing the pleats, and this seems to have helped ease the pleats back.
If you have a box then here is my video "how to" of putting the scarf back in its box correctly. Start by taking the end of the scarf in your hand, held in place by your thumb. Then start to wind it around, carefully coaxing the pleats together whilst also trying to keep them flat. It looks a bit wide at the start of the video, but as the scarf is wound up and popped in the box, the pleats settle down into place. Hope this helps!

Plisse Ideas from Hermes

I was in scarf conversation with a scarf friend and she has a plisse minus the H booklet that usually comes with plisses so to help a friend out I have photographed one of my booklets to post here for the ideas.  If you click on the photos they will enlarge so you can see more detail.
